Inaugural Session of the Sixth Jharkhand Assembly to Begin on December 9

Ranchi, Dec 8 (NationPress) The inaugural session of the sixth Assembly of Jharkhand is scheduled to commence on December 9, running for four days until December 12. This session will introduce numerous noteworthy changes in the Assembly's structure and processes.
The newly elected MLAs will take their oaths during the initial two days of the session, with Pro tem Speaker Stephen Marandi overseeing the oath-taking ceremony. On December 10, the MLAs will also elect a new Speaker.
On December 11, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar will address the Assembly, followed by Finance Minister Radha Krishna Kishore presenting the second supplementary budget for the ongoing financial year.
The session will conclude on December 12 with a discussion on the Motion of Thanks regarding the Governor's address and a debate on the supplementary budget.
This assembly differs from previous ones in several respects. Notably, it will consist of 81 members instead of the usual 82, due to the elimination of the constitutional provision for nominating a representative from the Anglo-Indian community, following the 126th Constitutional Amendment passed in Parliament in January 2020.
The ruling party commands two-thirds of the total seats in the Assembly, marking a first in Jharkhand’s legislative history.
Approximately one-fourth of the MLAs, totaling 20, are serving for the first time.
Four political parties—the JD-U, the LJP-R, AJSU Party, and the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM)—each have one MLA in the House.
The main opposition party, BJP, along with the ruling alliance partner Congress, which is the third-largest party, have yet to appoint their legislative party leaders. Consequently, the Assembly is expected to commence without a Leader of the Opposition or a designated leader for the Congress legislative party.
On December 5, 11 ministers took their oaths of office and secrecy, just six days after Hemant Soren was sworn in as Chief Minister on November 28.
His four-party alliance achieved a significant victory in the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly, securing 56 seats in the elections held on November 13 and November 20, with the JMM winning 34 seats, Congress 16 seats, RJD four, and CPI-ML two seats. The CPI-ML opted to remain outside the cabinet.
