Guwahati, April 25 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared on Friday that the state government has implemented a zero tolerance approach towards anyone who shows support for the Pahalgam terror attack. The police are prepared to take strict measures against such individuals.

Authorities have already detained five individuals, including AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam and a student from Assam University.

CM Sarma emphasized, "Assam will not accept any person who, either directly or indirectly, backs Pakistan in relation to the atrocious events in Pahalgam."

He further stated, "To date, five people have been apprehended by @assampolice for promoting the cause of Pakistan on social media, either directly or indirectly," he continued.

The detained individuals are identified as Md. Jabir Hussain from Hailakandi, Md. A.K. Bahauddin, Md. Javed Mazumder from Silchar, Md. Mahahar Mia @ Md. Mujihirul Islam from Morigaon, Md. Aminul Islam from Nagaon, and Md. Sahil Ali from Sivasagar.

The Chief Minister also noted, "More arrests are pending as part of our ongoing efforts against this issue."

Islam, the AIUDF MLA representing Dhing Assembly in Assam, was taken into custody on Thursday under sedition laws following his inflammatory remarks concerning the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in over 20 fatalities.

In a video shared on social media, Islam appears to suggest that the Pahalgam and Pulwama attacks were part of a government conspiracy.

AIUDF leader Maulana Badaruddin Ajmal distanced the party from Islam's statements, asserting, "AIUDF supports the government. Terrorists do not belong to any religion, and those who perpetuate terrorism are against Islam."

Back in April 2020, Islam faced arrest on charges of sedition and inciting communal discord. This action followed the circulation of an audio clip where Islam allegedly stated that quarantine facilities in Assam were worse than detention centers and implied that the government was conspiring against Muslims under the guise of Covid-19 regulations.
