What Caused the Deadly Head-On Collision in MP’s Bhind?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Gwalior, Feb 21 (NationPress) Tragically, at least five individuals lost their lives, and seven others sustained injuries in a devastating head-on collision involving a bus and a van on a National Highway in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district during the night of Friday and Saturday, according to police reports.
The incident occurred between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. near Chhikma village under the jurisdiction of the Gohad police station. The force of the impact was so intense that the van was utterly crushed, entrapping several passengers inside.
Authorities explained that the unfortunate van was en route from Gwalior to Bhind, while the bus was traveling in the opposite direction. Four victims died at the scene, and a fifth succumbed to injuries after being rushed to the hospital.
Upon receiving the alert, a Gohad police team quickly arrived at the location, rescuing the injured and transporting them to nearby hospitals in Bhind and Gwalior via multiple ambulances.
According to Gohad police station in-charge Manish Dhakad, only two of the deceased—Atul Shivhare and Jagdish Bhadauria, both from Bhind district—have been identified so far. Efforts are ongoing to determine the identities of the remaining victims.
The injured individuals have been identified as Ketu (10), Santosh (37), Pradeep (22), Mewaram (61), Ramlakhan (59), Meera (61), and Sukhveer (50), all hailing from various villages within Bhind district.
At least two of the injured are reported to be in critical condition and have been referred to the district hospital in Gwalior.
Initial investigations indicate that the collision transpired at a curve on the highway, with police suggesting that the bus may have been traveling at an excessive speed. Additionally, low visibility due to dense fog in the Gwalior-Chambal region might have played a role in the accident.
Both vehicles have been cleared from the roadway, and traffic has been restored. Further inquiries are currently ongoing.
