Chandigarh, Sep 8 (NationPress) Haryana's Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced on Monday that a tragic total of 12 individuals have lost their lives due to the collapse of houses during the floods triggered by intense rainfall.
Among the casualties, three each were reported from Fatehabad and Bhiwani districts, two from Kurukshetra and Yamunanagar, and one each from Hisar and Faridabad. “The government is actively monitoring the impact of these severe rainfalls,” CM Saini stated during a press briefing.
He emphasized that the government has launched the e-compensation portal to alleviate the hardships faced by residents affected by the floods. So far, 169,738 farmers from 2,897 villages in the state have registered 996,701 acres on this portal for compensation.
“We have outlined priority areas for immediate relief in regions hit by flooding and waterlogging. Continuous relief efforts are underway, with a reserve fund of Rs 3.06 crore allocated for urgent assistance,” the Chief Minister elaborated.
He also announced an ex gratia of Rs 48 lakh designated for financial support to the families who have suffered losses. “In the event that individuals need to evacuate their homes due to the floods, we will establish relief camps for their safety.” Furthermore, he mentioned that compensation of up to Rs 15,000 per acre is being provided for damaged crops in waterlogged areas.
“To address potential shortages of green fodder in affected regions, we will arrange for dry fodder from neighboring districts. A thorough survey of houses that have collapsed or incurred damage due to waterlogging will be conducted to ensure compensation for these losses,” he added. Teams of medical professionals have also been deployed in the flood-affected regions, with comprehensive arrangements made for their treatment.
“As of now, 135 medical camps have been established,” he noted. CM Saini announced that the state government has extended Rs 5 crore in assistance each to Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, and has also allocated Rs 5 crore to Himachal Pradesh today. He commended all party MLAs for contributing one month’s salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
In addition, all government officials and employees have been encouraged to voluntarily donate. The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for their support regarding Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms.
