Agartala, Jan 5 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, expressed strong criticism towards the earlier CPI (M)-led Left Front government for its failure to nurture and develop the tourism sector. He stated that the new BJP administration's series of strategic policy changes and infrastructure projects have significantly increased the number of foreign tourists visiting the state.

During a ceremony marking the foundation stone laying for the Tripura Heritage Village and Sangeet Experience under the Union Tourism Ministry's Swadesh Darshan 2.0 initiative, along with the construction of an amusement park in Sachindranagar, West Tripura's Jirania, the Chief Minister elaborated on the state's progress.

He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has frequently acknowledged Tripura's advancements on various national platforms.

“In a recent public gathering in West Bengal, the Prime Minister referenced Tripura's development multiple times. Furthermore, our achievements were acknowledged during a Chief Secretaries meeting led by the Prime Minister,” he remarked.

After Sikkim, Tripura has seen a rise in foreign tourist numbers and is making strides in various developmental sectors.

“Tripura ranks second in Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth and per capita income among Northeastern states. NITI Aayog has recognized Tripura as a front-runner state,” the Chief Minister stated.

In his critique of the former Left Front regime, Chief Minister Saha pointed out that the Left Front, which was in power for 35 years, never performed Bhoomi Pujan ceremonies.

“They lacked faith in such traditions, while our administration promotes development in harmony with nature. Under Prime Minister Modi's guidance, we are committed to building a new India and a new Tripura,” he affirmed.

He also emphasized that the government is prioritizing infrastructure, agriculture, and tourism development, while empowering women through initiatives like 'Lakhpati Didi'.

“The BJP government is dedicated to the welfare of the populace without politicizing development,” he added.

According to the Chief Minister, the tourism initiatives will directly benefit the residents of Sachindranagar, with plans for facilities such as log huts, homestays, and other amenities.

He also mentioned events like the 'Unity Promo Fest', which have fostered unity and heightened awareness of Tripura's Janajati culture.

“Artists from outside the state are actively promoting Tripura on a national level. We are also crafting new policies to support tea gardens. The quality of tea produced here is exceptional, and the tourism projects will bolster the tea industry as well,” he added.

Further criticizing the Left Front, CM Saha stated that the prior government did not acknowledge tourism as an industry.

“Once we assumed power, we demonstrated that tourism is indeed an industry. The Prime Minister has emphasized the necessity for developing innovative tourist spots in every state,” he remarked.

The Tripura government is considering establishing a dedicated Tourist Police force to ensure visitor safety at prominent tourism locations.

The proposed personnel for the Tourist Police may be recruited among special executives, contingent on legal viability, according to the Chief Minister.

He highlighted the ongoing construction of 51 Hindu Shakti Peethas in Banduar, located in Tripura's Gomati district, which is expected to become a major spiritual tourism hub, attracting numerous visitors in the future.

“Our government is committed to serving all community segments, including both 'Jaati' (non-tribals) and 'Janajati' (tribals), while the CPI (M) employed a divide-and-rule strategy. Under their administration, industries faced closure, leading to unrest throughout the state,” CM Saha concluded.

Present at the event were State Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Tourism Secretary Uttam Kumar Chakma, Tourism Director Prasant Badal Negi, and several senior officials.
