Kolkata, March 12 (NationPress) Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday declared the establishment of the West Bengal Traders' Welfare Board (WBTWB), aimed at enhancing the welfare of the traders’ community across West Bengal.
In a post on her X account, Banerjee highlighted that this initiative had been a long-awaited request from the traders’ community.
"I am thrilled to share the formation and official notification of the West Bengal Traders’ Welfare Board (WBTWB), a promise I made during the State Traders’ Convention and the Business & Industry Conclave in December 2025. We always deliver on our commitments! This has been a persistent demand from our trading community. Congratulations to them!" wrote Banerjee.
The Board is designed to foster communication between the traders’ community and the state government.
"This Board will serve as an institutional platform for ongoing discussions and coordination between the trading community and the Government, ensuring representation from every district within the State. It aims to tackle the concerns of millions of traders," she explained.
The Chief Minister further revealed that the Chairperson of the Board will be the President of the Confederation of West Bengal Traders Association (CWBTA), the state's top traders' organization, which guarantees robust representation from the community itself.
"Our traders are the backbone of Bengal’s economy. We are steadfast in our support for them and committed to collaborating with them to develop a stronger and more dynamic economic future for our State," Banerjee added.
Earlier that day, she inaugurated a new 10-storey B.C. Roy Memorial Building at N.R.S. Medical College & Hospital, Kolkata, aimed at enhancing patient care. The total cost of this initiative is Rs 148 crore.
Additionally, she announced the construction of a new building by the West Bengal University of Health Sciences in Salt Lake, Kolkata, with an overall cost of Rs 102.75 crore. This facility will include office space and venues for academic seminars and other significant activities.
