Former IPS Officer Acharya Kishore Kunal Passes Away from Cardiac Arrest in Patna

Patna, Dec 29 (NationPress) Acharya Kishore Kunal, a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer who established the Mahadev Mandir Trust in Bihar, sadly passed away on Sunday morning from a cardiac arrest in Patna.
Kunal took his last breath at Mahavir Vatsalya Hospital in Patna, as confirmed by his son.
Following his retirement from the police force, Kunal was pivotal in the formation of the Ayodhya Temple Trust and served as the chairman of the Bihar State Religious Trust Board.
His influence extended as the secretary of the renowned Mahavir Mandir Trust in Patna, a charitable organization recognized for its extensive contributions to education and healthcare.
Under his stewardship, the Mahavir Mandir Trust initiated and oversaw numerous impactful projects, including schools and cancer hospitals, alongside various charitable endeavors.
He was critical in the establishment of significant institutions like Gyan Niketan, a well-known school in Patna, and the Mahavir Cancer Institute, which offers essential healthcare services.
Kunal's work highlighted his profound dedication to societal welfare, leaving a legacy of transformative contributions in education, healthcare, and spiritual initiatives.
Born on August 10, 1950, in Baruraj village, Muzaffarpur district, Kunal excelled in public service, academia, and philanthropy.
Kunal completed his schooling in Baruraj and pursued higher education at Patna University. A talented Sanskrit scholar, he fused his academic excellence with a passion for community service.
Kunal joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1972 from the Gujarat cadre. Over the years, he ascended the ranks, serving as a Senior Superintendent of Police in Patna and making significant contributions to law enforcement.
From 1990 to 1994, Kunal was an Officer on Special Duty in the Home Ministry, where his mediation skills proved crucial.
During the tenure of VP Singh as Prime Minister, he was appointed as a Special Officer to mediate between the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Babri Masjid Action Committee regarding the Ayodhya issue.
After retiring from the IPS in 2000, Kunal transitioned to academia, becoming the Vice Chancellor of Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University (KSD Sanskrit University), where he served until 2004. His tenure was characterized by efforts to revive traditional Sanskrit education and research.
As the Administrator of the Bihar State Religious Trust Board (BSRTB), Kunal led reforms in religious practices, advocating for inclusivity and working to eliminate caste-based discrimination in religious institutions. He also improved the administration of temples and trusts, ensuring enhanced transparency and efficiency.
