Nitish Kumar Initiates Construction of India's First Pediatric Cancer Hospital in Patna

Patna, Dec 12 (NationPress) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday initiated the construction of the country's first pediatric cancer hospital, Mahavir Child Cancer Hospital, located in Phulwari Sharif town of Patna.

This significant initiative is led by the Mahavir Cancer Institute, which is already managing two cancer hospitals, and aims to offer free cancer treatment for children up to 18 years of age.

The pediatric cancer hospital will feature a capacity of 100 beds.

This state-of-the-art, six-storey facility is expected to be completed within a timeframe of 18 months.

The newly constructed hospital will provide complimentary cancer treatment for children.

The project was inaugurated during a ceremony marking the anniversary of the Mahavir Cancer Institute.

Acharya Kishore Kunal, Secretary of the Mahavir Mandir Nyas Samiti, Building Construction Minister Ashok Chaudhary, and Medical Superintendent L.B. Singh were also present, alongside religious leaders and officials, to celebrate this milestone.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar commended the initiative, expressing appreciation to the Mahavir Mandir Trust and the management of the Mahavir Cancer Institute for their significant role in enhancing healthcare.

During his address, the Chief Minister conveyed his best wishes for the successful establishment of the hospital, underlining its critical role for children fighting cancer.

The construction of this hospital marks a pivotal advancement in pediatric cancer care in India.

Once operational, the hospital will be a vital asset for underprivileged families requiring specialized cancer treatment for their children.

The forthcoming Mahavir Child Cancer Hospital in Phulwari Sharif is designed to be a beacon of hope for children facing cancer, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Acharya Kishore Kunal, Secretary of the Mahavir Mandir Trust Board, emphasized the importance of this project, stating: "This will be the country's first cancer hospital dedicated to children. The incidence of cancer among children is rising alarmingly, which is a major concern. This hospital will provide relief to families who struggle to bear the high costs of treatment."

The Mahavir Mandir Trust, which operates the prominent Mahavir (Hanuman) temple in Patna, is well-known for its charitable healthcare endeavors.

It currently oversees the Mahavir Cancer Institute and Research Centre, a leading facility offering comprehensive cancer care in Bihar.
