Patna, Feb 21 (NationPress) Chief Minister Nitish Kumar conducted an inspection on Saturday regarding the construction of a new 1,200-bed hospital along with a residential complex at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) located in Sheikhpura, Patna.

Officials briefed the Chief Minister, stating that the construction is progressing swiftly and is nearing its conclusion.

During the inspection, the Chief Minister urged officials to accelerate the remaining tasks and ensure the timely completion of this advanced multi-specialty hospital.

He emphasized that upon completion, the facility will greatly improve access to sophisticated medical treatment and will further fortify healthcare services in Bihar.

Nitish Kumar reiterated that since taking office on November 24, 2005, his administration has continuously worked towards uplifting all segments of society and advancing every sector with a particular focus on healthcare.

Highlighting enhancements in the health sector, the Chief Minister remarked that before 2005, Primary Health Centres (PHCs) averaged only 39 patients monthly, which translated to about one or two patients daily.

He noted that from 2006 onwards, a comprehensive system providing free medicines and treatments has been established in government hospitals, leading to a significant surge in patient influx.

“Currently, primary health centres attract an average of approximately 11,600 patients per month,” he stated.

The Chief Minister also outlined the expansion of medical education and infrastructure within the state.

He mentioned that Bihar previously had only six medical colleges, a number that has now risen to twelve.

Furthermore, Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) is undergoing expansion to accommodate 5,400 beds, while the other five older medical colleges are being upgraded to 2,500 beds each.

Additionally, IGIMS is set to expand to a total capacity of 3,000 beds.

He stated that these initiatives have considerably reinforced Bihar's healthcare framework and improved the accessibility of quality medical services for its residents.

Several senior officials were present during the inspection, including the Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar, Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit, Health Department Secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh, Chief Minister’s Secretary Kumar Ravi, Chief Minister’s Secretary Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh, Health Department Special Secretary Himanshu Sharma, Managing Director of Bihar Medical Services and Infrastructure Corporation Limited Amit Kumar Pandey, IGIMS Director Prof. (Dr.) Binde Kumar, and other senior officials.
