Foundation Stone Laid for Reservoir Initiative in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal, Jan 13 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, along with the Union Minister for Jal Shakti, C. R. Patil, has laid the foundation stone for the Sevarkhedi-Silarkhedi reservoir project in Ujjain on Monday.
This ambitious project, valued at over Rs 614 crore, aims to ensure the continuous flow of the Shipra River. A dam will be constructed in Sevarkhedi village, where rainwater from the Shipra River will be captured and stored in the Silarkhedi pond located in Silarkhedi village. Post the rainy season, the stored water will be released back into the Shipra River, as per the state's directives.
During the event, Chief Minister Yadav expressed that all saints and devotees should be blessed with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the holy Shipra River during the Simhastha Kumbh 2028 in Ujjain. To facilitate this, it is essential to preserve the natural flow of the Shipra River during the rainy months. The Chief Minister recalled that until 2004, followers of Lord Mahakal would bathe in the Gambhir River, which begins in Janapav near Mhow, flowing northward and converging into the Shipra River in Ujjain.
He remarked, "In the last Simhastha held in 2016, devotees had to immerse themselves in the Narmada River due to the complete desiccation of the Shipra River. However, this time, we will guarantee that devotees can bathe in the waters of the Shipra during the Simhastha Kumbh 2028," stated CM Yadav.
Notably, the state cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, approved this project in September of the previous year, considering the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. Furthermore, this initiative will support irrigation across more than 18,000 hectares of land spanning around 65 villages. The project will also enhance the water storage capacity of the reservoir by elevating the height of the Silarkhedi reservoir.
