Four Children Injured as Roof Plaster Falls at Anganwadi Center in Karnataka

Kolar (Karnataka), Jan 4 (NationPress) Four children were injured and have been admitted to the hospital after the roof plaster of an Anganwadi center collapsed on them during class in Dasarahalli village, Kolar district.

The incident took place in the morning, inciting anger among locals, who blamed the authorities for negligence.

As per police reports, seven children were present in the building when the roof plaster unexpectedly fell. One child suffered a leg fracture, while three others incurred injuries to their head and limbs.

The injured children were promptly transported to Bangarpet Government Hospital. Authorities have confirmed that surgery preparations are underway for the child with a fracture.

Local MLA S.N. Narayanaswamy from the Congress party visited both the scene of the incident and the hospital to monitor the injured children.

"I inspected the site and observed no structural problems with the building. The incident seems to have been caused by the plaster loosening due to rainfall," MLA Narayanaswamy commented.

"One child has a hairline fracture. I have mandated a thorough review of all Anganwadi school buildings in the area," he added.

The MLA ensured that decisive action would be taken against the contractor responsible for the construction and any negligence from the education department.

The Deputy Director of the Women and Child Welfare Department, Narayanaswamy, confirmed that the Anganwadi teacher has been suspended for failing to report the building’s deteriorating condition.

"We are urgently relocating the Anganwadi center to a different building to guarantee the children’s safety," he stated.

Local residents have called for accountability, demanding stricter monitoring of infrastructure in childcare facilities.

Anganwadi centers are rural childcare institutions established by the Indian government in 1975 as part of the Integrated Child Development Services program to combat child hunger and malnutrition.
