Jaipur, July 25 (NationPress) In a tragic incident, six students lost their lives while more than 30 others sustained injuries at Peeplodi Government School in the Manoharthana block of Jhalawar district, Rajasthan, on Friday due to a partial collapse of the school building. The incident happened during class hours when 35 Class 7 students were inside a classroom that suddenly fell apart. All the affected children became trapped under the rubble. Villagers and teachers quickly rushed to assist and rescued the injured, who were promptly taken to Manoharthana Hospital.
Dr. Kaushal Lodha confirmed that 11 critically injured children have been transferred to the district hospital in Jhalawar for enhanced medical care.
Local reports indicated that the school consists of seven classrooms, with 71 children present in two of them at the time of the incident.
The collapse occurred in a classroom occupied by Class 7 students. Two teachers were on the premises but were outside at the time of the collapse.
The identified victims include Payal (14), Priyanka (14), Kartik (8), Harish (8), and Meena Redas. One child remains unidentified.
The injured students were referred to Jhalawar for treatment. Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy, assuring that repair work for dilapidated buildings is in progress, with an allocation of approximately Rs 200 crore for this initiative. “Our immediate focus is to ensure the injured children receive the highest quality treatment and recover swiftly,” stated Dilawar.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed his grief over the loss of young lives and has mandated a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
The government will cover all medical expenses for the injured students, and senior officials have been dispatched to the location. Local villagers expressed frustration, claiming that the school building had been in a state of disrepair for an extended period, exacerbated by continuous rainfall.
Despite numerous warnings, no actions were taken by the authorities.
Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives, calling it an extremely distressing event.
He stated, “I have requested detailed information from the local administration regarding the relief and rescue efforts and urged them to ensure prompt and effective measures.”
Extending his condolences, Shekhawat added, “I wish for the quick and full recovery of the injured children. May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may God provide strength and comfort to the grieving families during this challenging time.”
