Indore, Sep 4 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, criticized the Madhya Pradesh government on Thursday following a distressing incident where two newborn infants were bitten by rodents, leading to the tragic demise of one baby.
“In Indore, at the largest government hospital in Madhya Pradesh, two newborns suffered fatal rodent bites - this is not merely an accident, it is outright murder. The nature of this incident is so shocking, inhuman, and callous that merely hearing about it sends chills down one’s spine,” Rahul Gandhi expressed in a detailed post on X regarding the occurrence.
He lamented the loss a mother experienced, having her child taken from her arms due to the government's failure to meet its most fundamental obligations.
“The healthcare sector has been intentionally surrendered to private entities, where treatment is accessible only to the affluent, while government hospitals have devolved from life-saving facilities into death traps for the underprivileged,” he remarked.
Furthermore, Rahul Gandhi condemned the state government, claiming that, as usual, the administration responds with, “There will be an inquiry” - but the real question is: when you cannot even guarantee the safety of newborns, what authority do you possess to govern?
He stated that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chief Minister should feel ashamed.
“Your administration has deprived millions of poor citizens of their right to healthcare - and now, even a child's life is being snatched from a mother's embrace,” he declared.
“Modi ji, this outcry is on behalf of countless parents who are victims of governmental negligence today. How will you respond?” Rahul Gandhi concluded.
On Tuesday, in a shocking revelation, rodents attacked two newborns in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of M. Y. Hospital in Madhya Pradesh, one of whom (a baby girl) tragically lost her life, exposing severe negligence within the state-run health system.
The newborns were admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Maharaja Yashwantrao Chikitsalaya (MYH), which is among the largest government hospitals in the region.
The horrifying incident was uncovered when the nursing staff noticed the injured infants and alerted the hospital authorities. Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, they discovered rats jumping in a swing near the vulnerable newborns.
In response to this alarming incident, a committee of six doctors has been formed to investigate the situation and provide a report within a week.
Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, who also leads the Health Department, confirmed to IANS that an inquiry has been initiated.
