Jaipur, Jan 16 (NationPress) The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Rajasthan has apprehended Sudha Kanwar, a 26-year-old woman married to gangster Amarjeet Vishnoi, who is a prominent figure in the Rohit Godara and Lawrence Bishnoi gangs.
Kanwar was captured on Wednesday in Trapani City, located in Sicily, Italy, with the support of local law enforcement. She had escaped India using a tourist visa, facilitated by her husband. She faces allegations of threatening and firing upon businessmen, alongside involvement in the murder case of Raju Thehat.
As stated by Additional Director General (ADG) Dinesh MN, the AGTF successfully arrested Kanwar, a resident of Bichwal, Bikaner, through international collaboration with Interpol. This operation resulted in her capture in Trapani, Sicily, on Wednesday.
ADG Dinesh MN noted that Kanwar and her husband took part in a gang that extorted money from business owners via threatening communications. If demands were ignored, the gang resorted to violence, including shooting at victims and their families.
The ADG highlighted that Amarjeet Vishnoi played a key role in organizing “dabba calls” (illegal calls) for gang members, including Rohit Godara.
“He was apprehended in Italy on July 8 of last year due to AGTF's relentless efforts. Originally hailing from Merta City, Nagaur, Sudha Kanwar became involved in criminal activities after ending her first marriage and marrying Amarjeet Vishnoi,” he explained.
He further stated that she actively aided her husband in his illicit operations.
“On December 3, 2022, Kanwar assisted Manish alias Bachhiya, a shooter implicated in the murder of gangster Raju Thehat by transferring funds and supplying weapons. She was detained on February 5, 2023, related to the case and subsequently placed in judicial custody,” he mentioned.
He added that Sudha Kanwar was released on bail and after her release, her husband contacted her to travel abroad.
“The AGTF obtained intelligence indicating that on October 10, 2023, Kanwar traveled to Italy via Sharjah on a tourist visa. In collaboration with Interpol, her entire criminal record, dossier, search and arrest warrant, along with court orders were shared,” he said.
He indicated that an Interpol red notice was issued against her, and communications were sent to the authorities in Dubai and Italy.
Sources confirmed that Kanwar was residing in Sicily, Italy. After confirming this information, Interpol issued a reference letter, leading to her arrest by Italian police on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the process to extradite Amarjeet Vishnoi to India is currently underway. Efforts are also being made to extradite Sudha Kanwar to answer the charges she faces in India.
