New Delhi, May 17 (NationPress) The Government-e-Marketplace (GeM) has successfully empowered 185,408 women-led micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and 31,005 DPIIT-recognised startups, transforming public procurement with a focus on transparency, efficiency, and inclusion, as stated by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Saturday.

During the last financial year (FY25), GeM recorded an impressive order volume of 72,36,651 with a total order value reaching Rs 543,019 crore.

Founded in 2016, GeM offers government buyers a comprehensive digital platform for conducting public procurement at competitive prices.

“Celebrating @GeM_India on its 8th Incorporation Day. This platform has transformed public procurement through transparency, efficiency, and inclusion,” Goyal remarked in a post on the X social media platform.

“GeM is more than a marketplace; it represents a movement that empowers 185,408 women-led MSMEs and 31,005 DPIIT-recognised startups,” he added.

According to Goyal, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, “GeM is providing every enterprise with an opportunity to grow and serve India.”

GeM has also facilitated insurance coverage for over 1.3 crore individuals, encompassing health, life, and personal accident insurance policies during the financial year 2024-25.

In addition to insurance services, GeM has enabled the hiring of one million people throughout FY25.

The platform aims to connect innovators with government buyers, fostering rapid scaling, market validation, and significant contributions to India's global innovation profile.

The government has emphasized critical reforms in the procurement system via GeM, including strong anti-cartel measures and expert-led initiatives to enhance efficiency, transparency, and growth.
