New Delhi, April 6 (NationPress) The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) highlighted its pivotal role in fostering startup growth and emphasized the potential of public procurement as a catalyst for encouraging innovation and inclusive development during the recently concluded ‘Startup Mahakumbh 2025’ here, as announced by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Sunday.

The ‘Startup Mahakumbh’ showcased remarkable involvement and underscored the increasing strength of India’s entrepreneurial landscape.

As a key presenting partner, GeM interacted with a diverse array of startups, investors, policymakers, and industry leaders throughout the event.

This engagement illustrates a sustained endeavor to bolster the growth of Indian startups by enabling access to government markets, fostering new opportunities, and aiding the broader vision of an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, according to the ministry.

The event featured sector-specific pavilions that celebrated India’s prowess in DeepTech, AgriTech, BioTech, MedTech, Artificial Intelligence, Gaming, and more.

GeM’s involvement highlighted its mission to connect innovators with government buyers, facilitating quicker scaling, market validation, and significant contributions to India’s position in global innovation.

The impact of GeM at the Mahakumbh was further enhanced by a dynamic panel discussion that attracted a full audience and included insightful contributions from GeM leaders, industry specialists, and policymakers.

The sessions reaffirmed GeM’s role in reshaping public procurement into a launchpad for the next generation of entrepreneurs in India.

Addressing the theme of government-startup collaboration, Ajay Bhadoo, CEO of GeM, stated, “Let’s collaborate and unlock the true potential of public procurement in fostering startup growth, inclusive development, and Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

His keynote speech highlighted the transformative potential of platforms like GeM in scaling innovative domestic solutions and providing startups with policy-driven opportunities.

Over the course of three days, GeM addressed more than 2,500 startup inquiries, facilitated over 1,000 startup registrations and cataloging, and organized over 1,500 interactive sessions — including individual mentoring and group engagements — focused on onboarding and skill development through GeM’s Learning Management System (LMS).

GeM’s Pavilion featured over 70 innovative startups, including 30 startup pods awarded at no cost to winners of GeM’s ‘Start-o-nauts Challenge’.

To date, GeM has enabled transactions exceeding Rs 38,500 crore for over 30,000 startups, solidifying its role as a genuine catalyst in India’s innovation ecosystem.
