New Delhi, Dec 21 (NationPress) The Government e-Marketplace has become a pivotal platform for small enterprises in India, with over 11.25 lakh micro and small businesses obtaining government orders totaling Rs 7.44 lakh crore to date, as reported by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Sunday.

According to official statistics, the Government e-Marketplace has empowered MSEs, female entrepreneurs, SC/ST-owned firms, and startups to compete directly for governmental contracts across various sectors.

As of November 30, MSEs comprised 44.8 percent of the overall order value on GeM, significantly surpassing the mandated annual procurement target of 25 percent, as stated by the ministry.

This platform has successfully dismantled traditional obstacles related to size and scale, enabling small businesses from all over the country to engage in government procurement.

From providers of clean energy to technology services, MSEs are increasingly securing substantial contracts through this digital marketplace.

Women-led enterprises have witnessed a significant surge in their presence on GeM. Currently, more than two lakh women-owned MSEs are active on the platform, collectively securing government orders exceeding Rs 78,000 crore.

Their engagement is bolstered by initiatives like Womaniya, which emphasize onboarding, training, and enhancing access to procurement opportunities for female entrepreneurs.

The design of GeM closely aligns with national procurement policies aimed at promoting broader inclusion, according to the ministry.

Buyers can effortlessly locate products and services offered by MSEs, including those owned by women and SC/ST communities, using specific filters available on the platform.

Qualified MSEs receive advantages such as purchase preference and relaxations regarding earnest money deposits, turnover criteria, and prior experience requirements, while ensuring transparency and accountability.

In addition to facilitating transactions, GeM has enhanced transparency, speed, and traceability in government procurement processes. The platform allows businesses from diverse regions and communities to access opportunities that were previously challenging to attain, supporting greater participation in public expenditure.

Point of View

I emphasize the vital role of the Government e-Marketplace in fostering inclusivity and growth within our economy. By enabling micro and small enterprises, particularly those led by women and marginalized communities, to access government contracts, GeM showcases a progressive approach to public procurement. This initiative not only stimulates economic activity but also promotes diversity in business participation, aligning with our national goals.
