New Delhi, April 6 (NationPress) The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has achieved a remarkable cumulative Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of Rs 18.4 lakh crore, which includes Rs 5 lakh crore transacted during the financial year 2025–26, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry's announcement on Monday.
Furthermore, Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) constituted 68 percent of the total orders placed on the platform in the fiscal year, accounting for 47.1 percent of the overall GMV.
With over 11 lakh MSEs registered on GeM, these enterprises received more than 51 lakh orders cumulatively in FY26, marking a growth of over 20 percent from the previous year, as reported by the ministry.
In addition, enterprises led by women, those belonging to SC/ST categories, and startups demonstrated significant growth, with startups leading the way with a 36 percent year-on-year increase. More than 2.1 lakh women-led MSEs received orders exceeding Rs 28,000 crore, reflecting an increase of approximately 28 percent.
Similarly, MSEs from the SC/ST category also experienced a 28 percent rise, securing orders worth over Rs 6,000 crore.
The CEO of GeM, Mihir Kumar, stated at a press briefing that this milestone illustrates the confidence of buyers, sellers, and institutions in a technology-driven procurement ecosystem.
“Surpassing a cumulative GMV of Rs 18.4 lakh crore showcases the trust of buyers, sellers, and institutions in a transparent and technology-driven procurement ecosystem,” Kumar emphasized.
GeM employs machine learning-based catalogue validation and conducts pre-sanity checks to minimize listing errors, along with real-time transaction monitoring aimed at identifying anomalies.
The platform utilizes analytical tools to detect abnormal pricing, suspicious collusive bidding, technical rejection anomalies, and potential collusion between buyers and sellers. Bid Health Scores are also employed to aid in procurement decision-making.
Following its adoption by central ministries, departments, and Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), the platform is witnessing increasing engagement from state governments and Union Territories.
The ministry further noted that state procurement via GeM surged by 38.3 percent in FY 2025–26, indicating a broader penetration of the platform beyond just the central government.
As the primary digital public procurement system for the government, GeM has expanded to connect buyers from central ministries, state governments, and public sector enterprises with sellers nationwide.
