Ghaziabad: Beneficiaries of PM Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana Report 50% Reduction in Power Bills

Ghaziabad, Dec 14 (NationPress) The PM Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana (PM-SGMBY), a prominent initiative aimed at changing electricity consumption habits, has seen immense popularity in the city, with thousands seeking registration for the program.

Over 1,000 residents of Ghaziabad have already become beneficiaries, and more than 16,000 individuals have registered for the scheme.

Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, this initiative aims to provide complimentary electricity to low-income households and empower them to earn income from excess power generated.

Hema Aggarwal, a beneficiary, expressed, "This has significantly reduced our electricity expenses. There are no charging costs involved as it utilizes solar energy. Our electricity bills have decreased by over 50%.

"I highly recommend others to participate, as it offers numerous advantages, particularly beneficial during both winter and summer," she further noted.

Another beneficiary, Vipin Kumar, mentioned, "The scheme provides subsidies. If you have an empty roof, you can set up solar panels that produce electricity and drastically lower your power bills."

"I installed 1600-watt solar panels, generating around 10 to 15 units daily, resulting in approximately 430 units monthly. Thanks to this scheme, our electricity costs have plummeted. Previously, our bill was Rs 4,000, but after installing the solar panels, it's now Rs 2,500, saving us Rs 1,500," he added.

Senior Project Officer Ram stated that the target under the PM Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana is to establish solar panels in one crore households nationwide, with a specific goal of reaching 2 lakh homes in Ghaziabad.

As per official data, 16,320 registrations have been recorded in Ghaziabad to date, with 5,641 applications submitted and solar panels installed in 1,235 residences.

"Many residents are satisfied with the scheme, and the number of installations is growing daily. We are also conducting awareness programs to encourage more individuals to participate," he concluded.
