A 17-year-old boy, identified as Surya Chauhan, was allegedly stabbed to death in Ghaziabad's Khoda Colony following an argument with a friend, triggering outrage among residents who have demanded encounter action and demolition of the accused's properties. According to police, the attack occurred on Thursday, and Surya — who had recently appeared for his Class 10 board examinations — succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Friday.

What Happened

Residents of the colony allege that Surya was dragged into a lane where he was stabbed with a knife in a manner that reportedly damaged his liver and caused severe internal injuries. A local eyewitness described a three-second video clip showing four boys present at the scene, including two of Surya's friends who were reportedly trying to intervene and save him.

According to locals, a prior dispute between the victim and the accused had occurred seven to eight months ago but was believed to have been resolved. However, they allege that local vendors had noticed the accused carrying a knife for the two days leading up to the incident — a detail they say the administration was unaware of.

Family's Condition and Alleged Hospital Refusal

Surya's family background adds a grim dimension to the case. His father had passed away, and his mother and elder brother were the sole earners of the household. A local woman alleged that hospital staff refused to treat the teenager due to the family's inability to pay ₹4 lakh upfront.

'The doctor refused to treat the child because they wanted us to pay ₹4 lakh. If they had wanted to, the child could have been saved, but the poor family did not have that much money,' she told reporters. As of 30 May, the victim's body had reportedly not been handed over to the family, and his mother had not been informed of the full extent of his injuries, according to residents.

Residents' Demands and Communal Allegations

Neighbours gathered and demanded that the accused be subjected to encounter and that their homes be demolished under bulldozer action — a form of extrajudicial pressure that has become a recurring demand in parts of Uttar Pradesh following high-profile crimes. 'Those who killed the child should be encountered. Bulldozers should be used to demolish the houses of the accused,' a woman said at the site.

One local also alleged that CCTV footage from the lanes had been deleted or withheld, claiming that residents of the area had refused to share recordings. These are allegations made by local residents and have not been independently verified. A resident further claimed that the accused had threatened Surya with a communally charged remark ahead of the attack — an allegation that, if verified, could escalate the case's political dimensions.

Administration Under Scrutiny

Residents expressed frustration over what they described as inaction by the local administration, saying that more than 48 hours after the incident, no official information had been communicated to the victim's family or the community. Police have confirmed the broad sequence of events but have not yet publicly addressed the allegations regarding hospital refusal or CCTV deletion. The case is likely to draw political attention in Uttar Pradesh, where similar incidents have previously prompted swift administrative responses.
