The district administration in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad has sealed three unregistered madrasas in the Khoda area under 'Operation Clean Sweep', launched to curb criminal activity and enforce compliance with legal requirements. The action, taken on 2 June, followed a door-to-door verification drive covering properties, landlords, tenants, and occupants across the locality.

What Triggered the Operation

The crackdown was set in motion after the murder of 17-year-old Surya Pratap Chauhan, a Class 11 student from Navneet Vihar Colony in Khoda. According to police, Surya was stabbed during an altercation on 28 May and later died while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Noida. The case triggered widespread concern over law and order, prompting authorities to undertake a comprehensive review of local enforcement.

Police identified the main accused as Asad, who carried a reward of ₹50,000 on his arrest. He was subsequently killed in an encounter conducted jointly by personnel from Khoda and Indirapuram police stations late on Saturday night, after allegedly opening fire on the police team.

What the Administration Found

District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar visited Khoda to review the operation on the ground. Following the verification exercise, officials identified three madrasas functioning without registration from the Madrasa Board. Among them, Madrasa Rahmania Arabia Qasim-ul-Uloom was explicitly confirmed as sealed after being found non-compliant.

'The Chief Minister has issued instructions in recent days to take action against criminals across the entire state. In continuation of that, an operation called 'Clean Sweep' is being carried out in Khoda,' District Magistrate Mandar said. He added, 'This drive will continue until complete verification is carried out to ensure that no illegal activity takes place in any property and that no miscreant is able to commit any crime.'

Three Pillars of Operation Clean Sweep

Officials outlined three core objectives underpinning the operation. The first involves door-to-door verification of individuals with criminal backgrounds and other suspects. The second focuses on summoning identified offenders to police stations and issuing formal warnings. The third targets individuals allegedly involved in activities causing losses to government revenue, with legal action proposed after verification.

Authorities also conducted a large-scale flag march across Khoda to reinforce police visibility and signal a zero-tolerance stance on unlawful activity.

Supervision and Deployment

The operation is being conducted under the supervision of Police Commissioner J. Ravindra Gaur, with substantial deployment of police personnel and administrative teams across the area. Ghaziabad Police have been placed on heightened alert, and the verification campaign is ongoing across Khoda.

With the operation explicitly designed to run until all properties in the area are verified, further sealing actions and enforcement measures are expected in the coming days.
