New Delhi, July 15 (NationPress) Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh has embarked on an official visit to Japan, engaging in essential discussions with local industry leaders, according to an official statement released on Tuesday.
He led an interactive roundtable with CEOs of prominent textile and apparel companies in Japan, urging them to explore investment opportunities in India within the technical textiles, fibre production, and machinery sectors, targeting both domestic and global markets.
The minister also honored the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi by laying a floral tribute at his statue, emphasizing the lasting significance of Gandhiji’s principles of truth, non-violence, and compassion, as stated by the Textiles Ministry.
During his visit, Giriraj Singh met with the Embassy of India in Tokyo, where he chaired a briefing led by Ambassador Sibi George concerning India-Japan relations and the potential in the textile sector.
A strategic meeting followed with Tadashi Yanai, the Chairman, President, and CEO of Fast Retailing Co Ltd., a leading global apparel retail company. The discussions centered on expanding sourcing, manufacturing, and retail operations in India, as per the ministry's reports.
The minister also engaged with the leadership team of Stylem Co Ltd, a prominent textile trading and OEM company, encouraging them to enhance their involvement with India via PM MITRA Parks and other governmental initiatives.
In a noteworthy interaction, Giriraj Singh conversed with the Directors of Daiso Industries, who unveiled plans to establish 200 stores and produce cotton products in India. The minister urged them to capitalize on India’s textile infrastructure and incentives.
Furthermore, Giriraj Singh chaired a roundtable with major Japanese textile and apparel company executives, promoting investment in technical textiles, fibre production, and textile machinery.
“Today, I participated in the inauguration of the 16th India Trend Fair, 2025 in Tokyo, Japan. This fair provides one of the largest platforms for Indian exhibitors to present their products directly to Japanese buyers. This event will significantly bolster India-Japan textile trade,” the minister shared on X.
Last month, the government announced plans to create a unified platform aimed at addressing critical issues within the textile sector by including all relevant stakeholders to collaboratively develop a roadmap to reach the $100 billion target for textile exports by 2030–31.
During the first meeting of the Task Force on Textiles Exports, Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal emphasized the necessity of formulating strategies to enhance India’s share in global markets.
