Mumbai, Oct 3 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized on Friday that the 'Golden Hour' plays a crucial role in cases of cyber fraud, stating that the quicker a complaint is lodged, the better the chances are for recovering the stolen funds.
“If you find yourself a victim of cyber fraud, it is imperative to file a complaint immediately via the helpline numbers 1930 or 1945,” he urged.
“Just as timely medical intervention can save the life of an accident victim during the Golden Hour, filing a complaint promptly can help detect cyber crimes and potentially recover lost amounts,” CM Fadnavis remarked during his speech at the inauguration of the Cyber Awareness Month event.
The event was attended by notable figures including Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla, Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department Iqbal Singh Chahal, actor Akshay Kumar, actress Rani Mukherjee, Dr. Farooq Qazi, and Prof. Manjesh Hanwal from IIT-Mumbai.
CM Fadnavis pointed out, “Combating cybercrime is one of the greatest challenges in our digital era. It is essential to prevent financial losses while also ensuring that criminals face justice after the fact. Raising awareness is the most effective strategy to combat cyber fraud.”
He continued, “The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has led to ordinary individuals being targeted through advanced tactics such as phishing, OTP fraud, deepfakes, and voice and face cloning. Information shared via social media and online transactions can lead to scams and cyberbullying when personal data is misused.”
CM Fadnavis announced that the state has established world-class cyber security laboratories, response centers, and regulatory frameworks to enable swift action following incidents of fraud, thereby mitigating the damage.
“However, the timely reporting of such incidents is vital. Technology poses a threat, but it also offers solutions. Our ability to tackle challenges like deepfakes is improving. Digital crimes leave behind a digital footprint, making both capability and public awareness critical. It’s essential to educate the youth about cyber security, and communicators play a pivotal role in this mission,” he noted.
Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla commented, “The Ministry of Railways has initiated an impressive awareness campaign aimed at keeping citizens informed and protected. Cybersecurity alerts are disseminated daily at all major railway stations across the country.”
“Millions of citizens are exposed to these messages regularly. Recognizing the need for public education, the state police is also conducting an extensive public awareness initiative across cities, districts, and social media platforms in Maharashtra.”
A documentary highlighting cyber security was screened at the event, and CM Fadnavis also unveiled a children's comic booklet titled 'Cyber Yoddha'. Additionally, cyber warriors dedicated to raising awareness were honored.
