Government Debunks False Claims of Militant Assault on Army in Baramulla
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 16 (NationPress) The authorities have officially refuted claims that surfaced on social media regarding a militant attack on the Indian Army in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. They labeled these reports as 'false' and confirmed that there were no casualties among Indian security personnel.
According to officials, the reality contradicts these claims, as security forces successfully executed a joint operation in the Uri sector of Baramulla, resulting in the elimination of one terrorist without any casualties or injuries to Indian personnel.
Details from March 15 indicate that troops thwarted an infiltration attempt in the Buchhar area, seizing weapons and ammunition during the operation.
The government emphasized that these findings are consistent with earlier official statements and directly oppose the narratives spread by certain pro-Pakistani and anti-government social media accounts.
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) also disseminated screenshots of misleading reports and television content being circulated online while firmly rejecting these claims.
“A number of pro-Pakistani accounts are disseminating posts asserting that militants attacked the Indian Army in Baramulla, causing injuries to 11 soldiers and one fatality. This assertion is false,” PIB stated.
“In response to specific intelligence regarding an infiltration attempt, a joint operation commenced on the night between 14 and 15 March 2026 in the general area of Buchhar, Uri sector, culminating in the elimination of one terrorist,” it added.
The government reiterated that there were no casualty reports among the Indian Armed Forces during this operation.
Officials urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any dubious news, videos, or images concerning the Central Government that may be circulating online.
In a related note, the Indian Army successfully countered an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in the Uri sector on Sunday.
The Chinar Corps, based in Srinagar, provided updates about the operation via a post on X.
“Based on precise intelligence from JKP concerning an infiltration attempt, a joint operation was initiated on the night of 14-15 March 26 in the general area of Buchhar, Uri sector,” the Army reported.
“Vigilant troops detected suspicious movements of a terrorist. The ambush was recalibrated, and upon challenge, the terrorist opened fire indiscriminately. During the encounter, a Pakistani terrorist was neutralized,” it added.
During this operation, security forces recovered a cache of arms, including an AK rifle, pistols, and a substantial quantity of ammunition.
