Jammu, Feb 27 (NationPress) On Thursday, the Indian Army refuted various media claims suggesting that it had incurred casualties from terrorist gunfire in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when terrorists targeted an Indian Army convoy in Sunderbani, Akhnoor. A defense statement clarified, “The attack was ineffective, and our troops reacted promptly. Certain social media platforms are spreading false narratives about casualties among our forces. This information is misleading and constitutes deliberate disinformation. We are currently conducting search operations to track down the assailants.”

Reports indicated that the terrorists had fired upon an Army vehicle in the Sunderbani area of Akhnoor, but there were no casualties reported as a result of the attack.

In response to the incident, joint forces initiated extensive search operations in the region on Thursday, yet there were no reports of any direct engagement (exchange of gunfire) with the terrorists.

This winter's minimal snowfall along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir has led intelligence agencies to note that all conventional infiltration routes for terrorists remain accessible. To prevent infiltration across the LoC, the Army and security forces are maintaining heightened vigilance both along the LoC and in the surrounding areas.

Earlier this month, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held two high-level security review meetings concerning Jammu and Kashmir in Delhi.

The Home Minister instructed security forces to maintain zero infiltration and enforce a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism.

Additionally, Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha conducted two security meetings, one in Srinagar and another in Jammu, where he directed police and security forces to dismantle the terror ecosystem by targeting terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers.

L-G Manoj Sinha emphasized that funds generated through hawala networks, drug trafficking, and peddling ultimately support terrorism in J&K, asserting that the fight against drugs should also be viewed as a battle against terrorism in the union territory.
