Mysuru, Feb 20 (NationPress) JD(S) MLA G. T. Deve Gowda expressed his approval of the Lokayukta's clean chit for CM Siddaramaiah concerning the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case on Thursday.
In a surprising twist for both his party and the BJP, Gowda emphasized that the Congress holds a strong majority and is poised to fulfill its complete term in Karnataka.
While addressing the media in Mysuru, Gowda remarked, "The RTI activists, Snehamayi Krishna, Gangaraju, and others were responsible for lodging the FIR. They insisted that CM Siddaramaiah should not remain in power following the FIR. They should now realize that the Lokayukta's investigation has established their claims as unfounded."
Regarding the internal dynamics within the Congress, Gowda noted, "Deputy CM and State Congress President D. K. Shivakumar is destined to become Chief Minister one day. However, the timeline for this remains uncertain. Shivakumar is actively pursuing his ambition to assume the CM position."
"Shivakumar requires the backing of CM Siddaramaiah to achieve the role of CM. Siddaramaiah, in turn, garnered Shivakumar's support to secure the position for a second term. Anyone aspiring to be CM must have the backing of 138 Congress MLAs. If someone has the support of only 10 MLAs and wishes to be CM, that won't materialize," he asserted.
"When one has the requisite numbers, the government remains stable. The Congress government is set to govern for a full five-year term. The public is weary of rumors regarding the Congress government’s potential downfall and CM Siddaramaiah's resignation. Those spreading such news are equally fatigued," he emphasized.
JD(S) MLA Deve Gowda is distancing himself from the party and has publicly commended Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during various events.
MLA Gowda indicated that he will not participate in JD(S) meetings or engage in organizational tasks.
In the 2018 state Assembly elections, G.T. Deve Gowda triumphed over CM Siddaramaiah by a significant margin of 36,000 votes from the Chamundeshwari constituency. He is currently dissatisfied with the JD(S) leadership for allegedly disregarding his seniority.
Union Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy stated that the party will address the matter with senior leader G.T. Deve Gowda shortly.
