Gandhinagar, March 4 (NationPress) Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has introduced 21 new minor and honors courses in advanced fields such as Data Science, Internet of Things (IoT), Electric Vehicles, AI & Machine Learning, Construction Technology, and Energy Engineering.

These offerings will be made available at 16 affiliated colleges under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 framework, as announced by Higher Education Minister Rushikesh Patel during a session in the Legislative Assembly.

As part of preparations for the 2024-25 academic year, GTU has collaborated with top industries, including iACE – Maruti Suzuki, L&T EduTech, and TCS iON, to provide 13 specialized minor/honors programs.

These partnerships will ensure industry-aligned training in areas such as Electric Vehicles, IoT, Industrial Process Safety, AI & Machine Learning, Cybersecurity, and 3D Printing.

Patel elaborated that minor degrees allow students to acquire knowledge in emerging fields beyond their primary bachelor's curriculum. In contrast, honors degrees provide students with the opportunity to delve deeper into their selected discipline, attaining an additional qualification alongside their main degree.

For instance, students in Civil Engineering can pursue a minor in Computer Science, Data Science, or Cybersecurity, while those in Computer Engineering can choose honors programs in AI, Blockchain, or Cybersecurity.

Gujarat Technological University (GTU) was founded in 2007 by the Government of Gujarat to foster excellence in technical and management education.

This state university affiliates over 480 colleges throughout Gujarat, offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in engineering, pharmacy, architecture, management, and computer applications. GTU supports more than 400,000 students each year and has initiated numerous reforms to better align education with industry demands.
