Gandhinagar, April 20 (NationPress) The Gujarat government has granted in-principle approval for urban development projects totaling Rs 1,202.75 crore, focusing on structured and inclusive growth, as announced by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Sunday.
The year 2025 is earmarked as the 'Urban Development Year', emphasizing a commitment to smart, sustainable infrastructure and public welfare amenities across urban regions of Gujarat.
Out of the total sanctioned budget, Rs 585.53 crore will be designated for infrastructure upgrades and beautification in eight newly formed municipal corporations: Navsari, Nadiad, Anand, Surendranagar, Gandhidham, Vapi, Porbandar, and Mehsana.
These funds will facilitate physical infrastructure development, including roads, drainage systems, street lighting, and sanitation, alongside social infrastructure such as anganwadis, school facilities, libraries, and urban health centers. To meet increasing demands for public transport, Rs 39 crore will be allocated annually from 2025 to 2027 under the Mukhyamantri Shaheri Bus Seva for operating CNG-powered buses in these cities.
According to the specifics of the funding distribution, Navsari will receive Rs 81 crore, Nadiad Rs 75 crore, Anand Rs 78.07 crore, Surendranagar Rs 81.04 crore, Gandhidham Rs 104.07 crore, Vapi Rs 78.63 crore, Porbandar Rs 80.30 crore, and Mehsana Rs 7.42 crore. These investments are poised to accelerate urban transformation in newly upgraded municipalities by enhancing both infrastructure and services.
Moreover, two significant urban development authorities have also received considerable funding under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana. The Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA) has been allocated Rs 375.38 crore, which includes Rs 72.52 crore for a modern sports complex and Rs 302.86 crore for a 60 MLD sewage treatment plant along with underground drainage systems across four town planning zones.
In a similar vein, the Surat Urban Development Authority (SUDA) has been granted Rs 97.81 crore for road resurfacing, new road construction, and installing LED street lights.
Additionally, the state’s major municipal corporations — Surat, Vadodara, and Gandhinagar — will collectively receive Rs 105.03 crore to bolster development projects through public-private partnerships. These initiatives will enhance road infrastructure, water supply lines, and sewage systems, especially benefiting residential communities involved in participatory development schemes.
