The Gujarat government on Monday, 27 July approved a clutch of industrial projects totalling investments of more than ₹2,999 crore under multiple incentive schemes, with the proposals projected to generate over 6,100 direct jobs across the state. The approvals were granted across a series of high-level committee meetings chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Industries Minister Harsh Sanghavi in Gandhinagar.

Key Approvals Under Industrial Policy-2015

The single largest tranche of clearances came under Industrial Policy-2015, through which the Final Eligibility Certificate committee for large industries approved 32 applications with a combined capital investment of ₹1,978.04 crore. These projects are expected to create approximately 4,739 direct jobs.

Investments were spread across multiple districts. Ahmedabad led with ₹528.49 crore in automobile, metal, cement and concrete sectors, followed by Morbi at ₹480.16 crore in ceramic, chemical, paper and plastic manufacturing. Kutch received approvals worth ₹332.71 crore in the metal sector, while Mehsana secured ₹301.16 crore for plastic and metal projects.

Other districts benefiting include Sabarkantha (₹110.42 crore, ceramics), Vadodara (₹102.94 crore, chemicals), Surat (₹74.49 crore, textile, pharmaceutical and metal), Gandhinagar (₹35.41 crore, metals) and Bharuch (₹12.26 crore, metal sector).

According to officials, since Industrial Policy-2015 was introduced under the 'Incentives to Industries' scheme — which provides eligible units with Net SGST refund or assistance — Gujarat has attracted cumulative investments of ₹1,48,336.35 crore and generated 1,65,053 direct jobs.

Capital Subsidy and Textile Sector Approvals

A separate committee cleared one project under the Capital Subsidy Scheme for Large Industries and Thrust Sectors, involving an investment of ₹649.23 crore and expected to create around 871 direct jobs. Officials said the investment would further reinforce Gujarat's industrial ecosystem while supporting both direct and indirect employment.

The seventh meeting of the State-Level Empowered Committee under the Scheme for Assistance to Strengthen Specific Sectors in the Textile Value Chain-2019 approved assistance for three textile units. Together, these units are projected to bring in investments of ₹165 crore and generate roughly 500 direct jobs. Eligible units under this scheme receive interest subsidy and power tariff subsidy, with the three approved units set to receive assistance exceeding ₹50 crore over the next five years.

Industrial Park Development

The state government also approved four projects under the Industrial Park Assistance Scheme of Gujarat Industrial Policy-2020. These projects involve investments of more than ₹371.70 crore for the development of industrial parks aimed at strengthening infrastructure across the state's industrial corridors.

Who Attended the Meetings

The committee meetings were attended by Minister of State for Industries Dr Jayram Gamit; Additional Chief Secretaries Jayanti Ravi, T. Natarajan and Mamta Verma; other senior IAS officers; and Gujarat Chamber of Commerce Industry (GCCI) President Sandeep Engineer. The breadth of representation signals the state's intent to fast-track industrial clearances as it positions itself ahead of the next investors' summit.

This round of approvals adds to a sustained pipeline of investment commitments Gujarat has been building since the Vibrant Gujarat summits, with the state consistently ranking among the top destinations for industrial FDI in India. Whether job creation targets are met on the ground, however, will depend on project execution timelines and labour absorption rates in each district.
