Ahmedabad, March 2 (NationPress) Gujarat's Chief Minister, Bhupendra Patel, emphasized the importance of merging moral education with cutting-edge technological skills to foster a self-sustained India as he inaugurated the latest structure of Shri Swaminarayan Gurukul. The inauguration took place at Shantigram, located by the Narmada Canal, attended by esteemed saints, devoted followers, and students.
Before officially opening the new facility, which boasts modern educational infrastructure for 4,000 students and housing for 1,500, the Chief Minister unveiled a commemorative plaque at its entrance.
In his Holi greetings, Patel remarked that India’s rich traditions highlight the festival as a testament to the victory of knowledge and values over ignorance and malevolence.
Speaking on the ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he noted, "This celebration aims to strengthen the essence of Sanatan Dharma within society. The New National Education Policy paves the way for India’s prosperity through knowledge steeped in values."
Patel added, "Under the Prime Minister’s leadership, Shri Swaminarayan Gurukul Rajkot Sansthan is equipping students with pertinent education. In addition to spiritual development, students need to gain proficiency in science, technology, and innovation essential for the 21st century."
He pointed out the escalating global competition in technology, reiterating the Prime Minister’s commitment to enhancing India’s capabilities in this field.
Referring to the recent launch of Micron’s semiconductor facility in Sanand, Patel stated, "Gujarat is on the verge of emerging as a semiconductor hub. There is expected to be a significant increase in demand for semiconductors, and I encourage the youth to acquire skills in chip design, artificial intelligence, electronics, and advanced technologies."
He mentioned that approximately 35 universities are now offering courses in chip design, and a fabrication laboratory is being established in collaboration with IIT Gandhinagar.
Patel suggested that the Shantigram campus could enhance its offerings by introducing programs aligned with the semiconductor sector while maintaining its commitment to value-based education.
Founded in 1948, shortly after India’s independence by Pujya Shastri Shri Dharmajivandasji Swami with just seven students, the Gurukul has since educated over 190,000 individuals.
Patel remarked that its residential and Gurukul traditions provide not only academic training but also essential life guidance, nurturing individuals dedicated to social and national service.
"Empowering our youth is vital to realizing the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’," he asserted.
The Shantigram campus features resources such as coaching for competitive exams like UPSC and GPSC, support academies, and modern hostel facilities.
Regarding the new building, Patel expressed that while donors are fortunate to contribute, it is the students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who will gain the most from the enhanced infrastructure.
