Gandhinagar, March 18 (NationPress) The Gujarat government has created job opportunities for more than 10,835 educated and semi-educated individuals in the private sector within the districts of Mehsana and Gandhinagar over the past year.
The State Labour and Employment Minister Balvantsinh Rajput made this announcement in response to a query in the Assembly.
Elaborating further, Minister Rajput revealed that in Mehsana district alone, 7,525 educated and 102 semi-educated persons found employment, while Sabarkantha district saw 3,208 educated youths being hired.
The state government's 'Anubandham Portal' has been instrumental in this effort, allowing job seekers to apply remotely and assisting employers in locating qualified candidates.
Moreover, the government regularly holds job fairs and mega job fairs at both district and taluka levels through employment offices.
The minister also highlighted the government's dedication to supporting young individuals aspiring to join the armed forces.
"Special military recruitment fairs are arranged, with provisions for accommodation, meals, and transportation for participants. The government has allocated up to Rs 9 lakh per recruitment fair to facilitate this initiative. To further assist tribal youth, special employment fairs are organized in remote regions such as Khedbrahma, Poshina, Dharampur, and Chhota Udepur, minimizing the need for them to travel long distances for job opportunities," he stated.
As per the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) 2023-24 conducted by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Gujarat has recorded the second-lowest unemployment rate in the nation, following Madhya Pradesh. In the 15-29 age group, the unemployment rate in the state for the period of July-September 2023 was 7.1 per cent, significantly lower than the national average of 17.3 per cent.
For those aged 15 and above, Gujarat's unemployment rate was 3.1 per cent during the same timeframe, compared to the national average of 6.6 per cent. However, urban areas in Gujarat have seen variations in unemployment rates. The unemployment rate for individuals aged 15 and above in urban Gujarat was 2.8 per cent in 2021-22, which rose to 8.7 per cent in 2022-23.
It then fell to 2.3 per cent in 2023-24, underscoring the necessity of ongoing efforts to stabilize the labor market and mitigate potential economic disruptions.
