New Delhi/Gandhinagar, Jan 25 (NationPress) The Union Home Ministry revealed on Sunday that a total of 16 officers and personnel from the Gujarat Police Force are set to be honored with police service medals during the Republic Day celebrations on January 26, acknowledging their exceptional and commendable service.
The prestigious awards will be bestowed by President Droupadi Murmu as part of the national Republic Day honors.
The official list indicates that two senior officials from the Gujarat cadre of the Indian Police Service (IPS) are among those chosen for the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM), one of the highest accolades in policing.
The other 14 recipients will be awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) for their unwavering commitment and contributions to public duty.
The President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service will go to Nipuna Torawane, IPS, who is the Additional Director General of Police and currently serves as Additional Chief Secretary in the Home Department of the Gujarat government, along with S. S. Raghuvanshi, IPS.
These two officers have been celebrated for their outstanding service record and leadership in significant policing and administrative roles.
The 14 awardees of the Police Medal for Meritorious Service comprise officers and personnel from various units of the Gujarat Police.
They represent diverse divisions including the Intelligence Wing, State Monitoring Cell, Prisons Department, Motor Transport Wing, coastal security units, and city police forces in Ahmedabad, Surat, and Rajkot, in addition to the State Reserve Police Force.
The recipients range in rank from senior officers to constables, showcasing contributions at both supervisory and operational levels.
The honors have been awarded for exemplary performance in areas such as counter-terrorism, intelligence operations, crime prevention, disaster management, prison reforms, and maintenance of law and order.
Many of the awardees have executed their duties in challenging and high-pressure environments, often with limited resources, earning them recognition at the national stage.
The DGP, Dr. K. L. N. Rao, extended his congratulations to all medal recipients, stating that this announcement reflects the professionalism and dedication of the Gujarat Police Force.
