Students and parents across Gujarat can now order school textbooks online and have them delivered to their doorstep at the printed price, with no additional delivery charges, under the state government's 'Books to Students with Just One Click' initiative launched on 25 September 2026. The Gujarat State Board of School Textbooks has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with e-commerce giant Amazon, making board-published books available across all standards and mediums through the platform.

What the Initiative Covers

The tie-up covers the entire catalogue of books published by the Gujarat State Board of School Textbooks, spanning all classes and language mediums. While the state government provides certain textbooks free of cost to eligible students, others — particularly those enrolled in self-financed schools — are required to purchase their books. The new arrangement ensures that these students and their families can access the required titles through Amazon at the printed price without paying any delivery premium.

Manubhai Pavra, Executive President of the Gujarat State Board of School Textbooks, confirmed the details of the agreement. 'We recently held discussions with Amazon and signed an MoU under which textbooks can be delivered to children and parents at home at the printed price, without them having to pay any additional cost. Accordingly, whenever children need a book, they will now be able to receive it at the printed price through Amazon's e-commerce platform,' Pavra said.

Parents Welcome the Move

Kinjal Makwana, a parent from Ahmedabad, said the facility was particularly helpful for working households. 'My child studies in Class 1. We had ordered the books from Amazon through the Gujarat Textbook Board. Both of us are working, so we did not have time to travel back and forth. We had limited time, so we ordered the books from Amazon. We easily got all the books, and they were delivered to our home without any difficulty,' she said.

Scale and Context

The Gujarat State Board of School Textbooks distributes approximately 1.5 crore textbooks every year. The online channel is intended not only as a convenience measure but also as a supplement for students who require additional copies beyond those distributed through the government's existing system. This comes amid a broader national push by state governments to digitise school administration and reduce friction in accessing learning materials.

What This Means for Students

The initiative is especially significant for students in semi-urban and rural areas who may face logistical challenges visiting authorised bookstores, as well as for families in urban centres where time constraints make physical retail visits difficult. With the MoU in place, access to board-prescribed textbooks is now a few clicks away, potentially reducing last-minute book shortages at the start of each academic term.
