Gandhinagar/Botad, March 9 (NationPress) A 22.5-kilometer segment of the road linking Botad, Salangpur, and Barwala is set to be transformed into a four-lane thoroughfare with an estimated investment exceeding Rs 124.40 crore, as announced by Botad MLA Umesh Makwana on Monday.
This upgrade will not only widen the Botad-Salangpur-Barwala route but will also incorporate a dedicated footpath along the Botad-Salangpur section, enhancing pedestrian safety for the numerous devotees visiting the Kashtbhanjan Dev temple in Salangpur.
Every Saturday, a significant number of devotees from Botad city make their way to the Kashtbhanjan Dev temple on foot.
“The current narrow road has resulted in frequent traffic jams and accidents, raising serious safety concerns for both pedestrians and drivers,” asserted Makwana.
He mentioned that the proposal for road expansion was made after repeated appeals to the Chief Minister, emphasizing the dangers faced by devotees and the imperative for improved access to the temple.
“The 22.5 km Botad-Salangpur-Barwala road will be developed into a four-lane route at a cost exceeding Rs 124.40 crore,” he stated.
Salangpur hosts the much-frequented Kashtbhanjan Dev temple and the BAPS Pramukh Swami memorial, both of which draw large crowds year-round.
Alongside the four-lane project, a bypass road will be constructed around Salangpur to redirect through traffic and alleviate congestion in the vicinity of the temple.
Recently, Makwana posed a question in the Legislative Assembly regarding the state of Gram Panchayat buildings in Botad district as of December 31, 2025, along with the number of new buildings approved in the last two years.
In his reply, the minister informed the assembly that five Gram Panchayat buildings in Gadhada taluka were in a deteriorating state, while no issues were reported in Botad, Barwala, or Ranpur talukas.
A total of 68 new Gram Panchayat buildings have been sanctioned in the past two years, with 17 in Botad, 35 in Gadhada, 4 in Barwala, and 12 in Ranpur, amounting to around Rs 6.14 crore, which includes offices for Talati-cum-Ministers.
