Gandhinagar, Nov 22 (NationPress) In a significant move to alleviate the financial struggles faced by farmers, the Gujarat government has declared that it will directly procure various crops, including paddy and millet, at the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Agriculture Minister Jitubhai Vaghani conveyed this decision. He indicated that the direct procurement of crops such as paddy, millet, sorghum, maize, and finger millet is scheduled to commence on November 24, as part of the Kharif Marketing Season 2025-26.
Recently, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel unveiled a historic relief package of Rs 10,000 crore to assist farmers impacted by heavy rainfall. This new initiative to procure crops at MSP is aimed at directly benefitting millions of farmers across the state.
The Agriculture Minister noted that paddy procurement will be based on a yield of 1,500 kg per hectare.
In total, there are 113 procurement centers established in the state for paddy, with additional centers specifically for other crops: 150 for millet, 50 for sorghum, 82 for maize, and 19 for ragi.
The procurement period is set from November 24, 2025, until January 31, 2026.
The allocated procurement quantities per hectare are 1848 kg for millet, 1539 kg for sorghum, 1864 kg for maize, and 903 kg for ragi. The minimum support prices (MSP) for these crops are set at Rs 2,369–2,389 per quintal for paddy, Rs 3,075 per quintal for millet, Rs 3,999 per quintal for hybrid sorghum, Rs 4,049 per quintal for maldandi sorghum, Rs 2,400 per quintal for maize, and Rs 5,186 per quintal for ragi.
Post procurement, the agricultural products will be distributed to the public under the NFSA and Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. This grain will be provided at no cost to 36 million beneficiaries from 7.4 million families within the state.
