Ahmedabad, Dec 14 (NationPress) In an effort to bolster transparency and trust within the organ transplant framework, the Gujarat government is in the process of creating a dedicated registration software for individuals waiting for kidney, liver, skin, heart valve, and tissue transplants.

The state faces a prolonged waiting list of patients requiring organ transplants, many of whom have experienced years of uncertainty due to insufficient information regarding their position on the cadaver (brain-dead donor) waiting list.

The planned digital platform will grant registered patients real-time access to their status on the transplant waiting list, addressing a persistent concern among recipients.

Pranjal R. Modi, the Director of the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC) in Ahmedabad, stated that this initiative would provide essential clarity to the system and empower patients with precise information.

Patients at IKDRC, the state's premier organ transplant center, have expressed their support for the state government's initiative, pointing out that the software will allow them to verify their waiting list number from the comfort of their homes, alleviating anxiety and minimizing the need for frequent hospital visits.

"This will render the process significantly more patient-friendly," noted Sanjaybhai Patil, a kidney patient receiving treatment at IKDRC.

This initiative follows a meeting convened on November 22, chaired by Principal Secretary Raj Kumar, where strategies to enhance the transparency and reliability of Gujarat's organ donation and transplant program were thoroughly discussed.

Once implemented, the new registration software is poised to introduce greater transparency to procedures involving skin, heart valve, tissue, kidney, liver, and bone transplants, ensuring that patients receive timely and accurate information — representing a major advancement in strengthening the state's organ transplant infrastructure.

Gujarat has gradually established itself as India's pharmaceutical capital, propelled by a robust manufacturing base, supportive policies, and a thriving ecosystem of research, talent, and infrastructure.

The state contributes a substantial portion to the country's pharmaceutical production and exports, featuring significant pharma hubs such as Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Ankleshwar, Vapi, and Sanand, along with Asia's largest common effluent treatment facilities that promote sustainable manufacturing.
