Gun threat to Tehsildar during anti-mining drive in MP's Shivpuri: FIR against 3
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
A man allegedly involved in illegal soil excavation threatened to shoot a Tehsildar during an anti-mining operation in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district, prompting police to register an FIR against three persons from the same family. The confrontation occurred on Thursday at Sadbud village under Badarwas tehsil, and a video of the incident went viral on social media the following day.
How the Confrontation Unfolded
A revenue team led by Tehsildar Sachin Bhargava reached the banks of the Sindh River after receiving information about illegal excavation of soil from government land. During the inspection, officials discovered that a pathway had been constructed leading to the riverbank, allegedly to facilitate sand mining. Soil was reportedly being extracted using a Hydra crane and transported via two tractor-trolleys.
When the team moved to seize the vehicles, the accused allegedly resisted. One of them, identified as Jaymandal Yadav, allegedly threatened Tehsildar Bhargava and other team members, warning he would shoot the officer and go to jail. He also allegedly directed his son, Vikul Yadav, to fetch a gun from their house, according to officials.
What the Viral Video Shows
In the video that circulated widely on social media, a man is purportedly heard issuing the threat directly to the officer during the standoff. The footage brought the incident to wider public attention and added pressure on law enforcement to act swiftly. Amid the confrontation, the accused reportedly fled the site with the Hydra crane and one tractor-trolley. However, the revenue team managed to seize the remaining tractor-trolley, which was loaded with illegally excavated soil, and handed it over to Badarwas police.
Scale of Illegal Excavation
Tehsildar Sachin Bhargava told reporters that the inspection revealed pits nearly 15 feet deep on government land as a result of the unauthorised digging. He noted that while the accused claimed the land was privately owned, excavation had also been carried out on adjoining government land, which triggered the revenue department's action.
FIR Registered, Investigation Underway
Based on the Tehsildar's complaint, Badarwas police station in-charge Naveen Yadav confirmed that an FIR has been registered against Jaymandal Yadav, his father Lakhan Yadav, and his son Vikul Yadav under relevant sections of law. 'An FIR has been registered against the accused. Their criminal records are being verified, and further legal action will be taken on the basis of the investigation,' Naveen Yadav told reporters. The case is now under active investigation.
This incident is part of a broader pattern of resistance against anti-mining drives across Madhya Pradesh, where illegal sand and soil excavation from riverbeds and government land has been a persistent enforcement challenge. The use of a viral video as a catalyst for action underscores the growing role of citizen documentation in holding illegal operators accountable.
