Guwahati, July 25 (NationPress) The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati has showcased exceptional operational results in the first quarter of the financial year, with notable year-on-year increases in both aircraft operations and passenger numbers, according to officials on Friday.
A representative from the Guwahati airport reported that from April to June 2025, the LGBIA achieved impressive growth in aircraft movements and passenger traffic. This trend solidifies the airport's status as a vital aviation center in Northeast India and highlights the growing need for air travel within the region.
The spokesperson added that through ongoing investments in infrastructure, technology, and passenger services, LGBIA is enhancing the economic connectivity of the region with the rest of the nation and international destinations. During this quarter, the airport managed a total of 12,470 aircraft movements and accommodated 1.81 million passengers, both figures reflecting double-digit growth compared to the same timeframe last year.
On April 10, 2025, a record single-day passenger count of 21,594 was achieved, while the three most frequented destinations remained unchanged – Delhi, Kolkata, and Bengaluru – indicating robust connectivity with major metropolitan areas. The increase in passenger and aircraft movements underscores the success of recent operational improvements and ongoing partnerships with airline operators, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders.
Additionally, Guwahati International Airport Limited (GIAL) recorded its highest cargo handling on June 28, achieving 42.43 metric tonnes (MT), surpassing the previous record of 40.43 MT, marking a growth of 4.95 percent.
The GIAL is operated by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, which is part of the internationally diversified Adani Group. It operates as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between AAHL and the Airport Authority of India (AAI) under a 50-year concession agreement.
