What led to Guwahati Airport's 7.67% growth in 2024-25?

Guwahati, May 21 (NationPress) The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport in Guwahati has recorded a remarkable growth of 7.67 percent for the fiscal year 2024-25 compared to the previous fiscal year (2023-24), as reported by officials on Wednesday.

A representative from the LGBI airport indicated that the airport successfully managed 6.57 million passengers, which included 3.26 million domestic arrivals and 3.30 million domestic departures, alongside 91,594 international passengers, marking a historic high for international traffic since commercial operations began on October 8, 2021.

On December 12, 2024, the airport set a new record by accommodating 21,444 passengers in a single day, including transit travelers. The LGBI airport has broadened its international route network, now offering direct flights to Paro, Malaysia, and Singapore, which has significantly boosted international passenger traffic and Aircraft Traffic Movements (ATMs).

According to the spokesperson, the airport recorded a total of 45,409 domestic ATMs and 1,009 international ATMs. Furthermore, three new domestic routes have been introduced: Guwahati-Ahmedabad, Guwahati-Durgapur (West Bengal), and Guwahati-Ziro (Arunachal Pradesh), enhancing connectivity and promoting trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.

The LGBI airport also experienced a significant increase in cargo operations, handling 12,893 metric tonnes (MT) of cargo in the fiscal year 2024-25, compared to 4,550 MT in 2023-24, representing an impressive 183.91 percent year-on-year growth, the highest volume processed since the start of commercial operations.

In December 2024, the airport managed 225 metric tonnes of perishable cargo, one of the highest volumes recorded in a month. The LGBI airport has been acknowledged for its dedication to exceptional customer service, achieving Level Two of the Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Customer Experience Accreditation.

Moreover, the LGBI airport has been lauded for its sustainability initiatives, receiving the Greentech PCWR Award 2024 in the Waste Management and Recycling Leadership category. The airport has also upgraded its DigiYatra facilities, introducing a dedicated DigiYatra lane with four DY-enabled e-gates, which enhances the passenger experience.

Additionally, an extra e-gate has been added in the pre-security check area, increasing the total number of e-gates in this section to six, further improving operational efficiency and convenience for travelers. As the LGBI airport continues to develop, it remains focused on providing outstanding travel experiences and establishing itself as a premier gateway to northeast India.
