Harish Salve: Constitution has muscle to handle Mamata's refusal to resign

Former Solicitor General of India and senior advocate Harish Salve on Tuesday said that outgoing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's refusal to formally resign following the Assembly election defeat is unlikely to trigger a constitutional crisis, as the law has sufficient provisions to address such a situation.

Speaking exclusively to IANS, Salve noted that the West Bengal Governor retains the option to decline inviting Banerjee to continue as acting Chief Minister, or to advise the Union government to impose President's Rule in the state.
