Chandigarh, March 2 (NationPress) The Haryana Police announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Sunday to examine the case involving the discovery of Congress worker Himani Narwal's body, which was found concealed in a suitcase in the Rohtak district.
The Congress party has called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Himani Narwal, who was linked to party MP Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Authorities reported that the body was located near a bus stand in Sampla town on Saturday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajneesh Kumar informed the press, “The SIT has been established. We have retrieved her phone and are collaborating with cyber and FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) teams.”
He further detailed that the victim, an LLB student, resided independently in the state while her family lived in Delhi. The postmortem examination has been completed, but family members were absent from the mortuary to collect the report or the body for cremation.
“The body was discovered in the suitcase. She was later identified as Himani Narwal... We called her family to the scene. We are exploring multiple angles and aim to resolve this matter promptly,” Kumar stated.
The victim's mother accused the elections and the party of contributing to her daughter's demise, expressing, “The election and the party led to my daughter’s death. This created enemies for her, who could have been from the party or her friends... She was at home on February 28.”
“Her association with Rahul Gandhi and closeness to the Hooda family may have incited jealousy among others,” she added.
In response to the heinous act, Congress leader and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda demanded an inquiry on Saturday.
“The report of the brutal murder of active Congress worker Himani Narwal in Rohtak is profoundly distressing and shocking. I extend my condolences to the bereaved family,” Hooda posted on X.
“A girl being murdered in this fashion and her body found in a suitcase is a grave concern. It reflects poorly on the state's law and order situation. A high-level, impartial investigation is essential, and the government must ensure justice for the victim’s family and the harshest punishment for the perpetrators,” Hooda added.
Congress MP Deepender Hooda remarked that this abhorrent murder has stirred the collective conscience of society. “Justice must be served for the affected family. Last year, Haryana was reported as the most unsafe state according to the social progress index by the Government of India. Additionally, Haryana ranks highest in the NCRB report for crimes against women and murder. The government appears disconnected from reality and must take action.”
