New Delhi, Nov 27 (NationPress) During a seminar focused on North East cinema at Jamia Millia Islamia, filmmaker Sanjoy Hazarika emphasized the vital role of media and filmmakers in addressing misrepresentation, as stated by an official on Thursday.
At JMI's Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research (CNESPR), Hazarika remarked that cinema, literature, and theatre collectively act as lasting archives of memory, resistance, and imagination.
In his keynote speech at the seminar titled ‘Locating Marginalities within Margins: Films from North East India’, which concluded on Thursday, Hazarika pointed out that the positioning of films from the region, including those on OTT platforms, signifies a shift away from conflict and violence toward more peaceful rural and urban communities, as well as to thriving business and film sectors.
The seminar received support from the Indian Council of Social Sciences Research, under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, New Delhi, according to a statement released by Saima Saeed, Chief Public Relations Officer of JMI.
