Jammu, March 13 (NationPress) The Lieutenant Governor (L-G) of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, emphasized on Friday the importance of literature and arts practitioners in safeguarding the Jammu division's rich heritage. He called for the promotion of this legacy to help the younger generation reconnect with their cultural roots.
"The literary, cultural, and spiritual traditions of Jammu have shown us the way to rise above caste, creed, and man-made divisions. The core values of our culture promote an ideology that prioritizes humanity above all," stated the L-G.
This address was made during the opening ceremony of the two-day literary-cultural event titled "Sahitya Sanskriti Samagam", hosted by Jammu University.
The L-G praised Jammu University for its unwavering dedication to preserving and promoting the cultural ethos of the region, which has positioned it among the leading universities in the nation.
The L-G articulated that the society shaped by our extensive literary and cultural heritage will define our identity and future potential.
He encouraged attendees to engage in reflection during this cultural and literary festival about the true essence that unites us and fosters a deep sense of belonging.
"A genuine amalgamation of culture and literature involves connecting with our roots through various art forms, reinvigorating the spirit of society," he remarked.
While paying tribute to illustrious literary figures, L-G Sinha highlighted that a region's identity transcends economic success; it is illuminated by its narratives, songs, and the vibrant expressions of its artisans.
He urged enlightened members of society to appreciate folk arts and literature as the living essence of Jammu.
"Our folk traditions are not confined to libraries; they flourish in the creativity of writers, the melodies of singers, the rhythms of folk dancers, and the artistry of painters. I urge everyone, especially the youth, to embrace literature and culture, as it carries forward the living legacy of values inherited through generations. You are not merely inheritors but custodians of this cultural-literary treasure. This tradition teaches the significance of inclusion," the L-G added.
He further stated that protecting our language ensures the preservation of our memories, while nurturing regional art forms cultivates self-confidence.
"Let's focus on local stories, dialects, and artistic practices, as every individual’s identity draws sustenance from these roots. When generations share experiences, cultural and literary heritage evolves into a vibrant dialogue," he concluded.
The two-day literary-cultural conclave includes cultural parades, displays of indigenous clothing, handicrafts, traditional cuisines, books, and arts, as well as panel discussions and a series of activities that celebrate the region's unique identity, honoring languages, folklore, customs, creativity, and literary heritage.
