Moradabad, March 14 (NationPress) Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has continuously worked to enhance healthcare facilities, fortify medical education, and improve access to quality health services, stated Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare J.P. Nadda on Saturday.

During the convocation ceremony at Teerthanker Mahaveer University in Moradabad, Minister Nadda remarked: “Over the past 11 years, India has experienced a remarkable growth in top-tier medical institutions. The number of All India Institute of Medical Sciences has surged from 6 to 23, thereby bolstering tertiary healthcare services and paving the way for enhanced medical education and research nationwide.”

He pointed out that India has made significant advances in improving maternal and child health metrics.

Referring to global statistics, J.P. Nadda indicated that India's Maternal Mortality Ratio has decreased by approximately 86%, contrasting with a global reduction of around 48%, underscoring the effectiveness of ongoing public health initiatives.

On the topic of tuberculosis, he noted that India has accomplished a 21% drop in TB cases, which outpaces the global decline of 12% as reported by the World Health Organization.

Furthermore, J.P. Nadda asserted that the government is persistently striving to lessen the financial strain of healthcare on citizens. He mentioned that out-of-pocket healthcare expenses (OOPE) have considerably reduced from 62.6% to 39.4%, signifying the government’s dedication to making healthcare more affordable and accessible.

Emphasizing India's strides in timely treatment access, the Union Health Minister cited findings from The Lancet indicating that about 90% of cancer patients in India start their treatment within 20 days, showcasing improvements in early diagnosis and treatment pathways within the healthcare framework.

He also praised the transformative effect of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, labeling it as the largest health coverage initiative globally, which provides up to Rs 5 lakh per family for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization.

J.P. Nadda noted that this scheme has significantly enhanced financial safety in healthcare, benefiting over 71 crore individuals, allowing countless families to receive quality treatment without incurring financial burdens.

Addressing the graduates, the Union Health Minister reminded them that their academic successes are the result of collective efforts from parents, mentors, university personnel, and supportive systems.

“Every degree is underpinned by the quiet contributions and encouragement from families, faculty members, and institutions guiding students toward their achievements,” he commented.

He encouraged the graduates to uphold a strong sense of social responsibility throughout their professional journeys.

“Always remember that society has enabled you to reach this point. Carry with you the belief that you must give back to the community and strive for the greater good,” he added.
