Kochi, July 19 (IANS) Kochi airport was the backdrop for heart-wrenching scenes on Saturday morning as Suja, the grieving mother of 13-year-old Mithun, returned from Kuwait. Mithun tragically lost his life due to electrocution while trying to retrieve his footwear from the rooftop of his school.
Upon her arrival, Suja broke down in tears as she embraced her younger son, 11-year-old Sujin, and other close family members. Surrounded by numerous media personnel and photographers, she was swiftly escorted to a waiting vehicle, beginning her somber journey to Kollam with a police escort in front.
At their modest home, shielded by plastic sheets, the entire family awaited Suja's return to bid farewell to Mithun one last time.
This morning, Mithun's body was brought to the school, drawing a significant crowd who came to pay their respects to a boy who aspired to join the Armed Forces to support his family.
A talented football player, Mithun had recently been selected for the school team and was well-liked, despite joining the school only a month prior.
In response to the tragic incident, the school management suspended Headmistress S. Sujatha on Friday evening, following a report highlighting negligence on the part of school authorities.
Suja had gone to Kuwait just four months earlier to work as a domestic helper, hoping to save enough money to build a small home, as her husband’s meager income was insufficient to support the family.
However, her hopes were shattered when Mithun died after coming into contact with a live wire while on the rooftop. On Thursday, he had volunteered to retrieve his shoes, leading to the fatal accident.
The State government has provided the family with a cheque of Rs five lakh and has promised a new home in Mithun's memory.
