Chennai, Oct 25 (NationPress) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a new weather advisory indicating widespread rainfall across various districts in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, triggered by the emergence of a new low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal early Saturday morning.

As per the latest bulletin from the IMD, a cyclonic circulation situated over the southeastern Bay of Bengal and adjacent south Andaman Sea resulted in the formation of a low-pressure area around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday.

“This weather system is expected to shift in a west-northwest direction and strengthen further over the next 48 hours,” the statement mentioned.

Due to its influence, substantial rainfall is anticipated in Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, and Puducherry districts on Saturday.

The weather office has also predicted light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in multiple areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Sunday.

Districts such as Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Ranipet, and Puducherry are likely to see heavy rainfall in isolated spots.

The IMD warned that localized intense downpours could lead to flooding and waterlogging in urban areas. Rain is expected to persist on Monday across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

Forecasters cautioned that one or two locations in Tiruvallur, Chennai, and Ranipet districts might experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, while Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, and Vellore districts are also likely to receive heavy rain.

Meanwhile, several regions in Sivaganga district have already faced intense rainfall.

Areas like Tirupathur, Singampunari, and Karaikudi have recorded significant downpours, leading to parts of the area including Kundrakudi, Pillayarpatti, and Sirukoodalpatti submerged under rainwater.

Disaster management teams have been alerted across the northern and central districts as the state prepares for another phase of monsoon activity.

Fishermen are advised to refrain from venturing into the sea due to rough conditions in the Bay of Bengal.

With the northeast monsoon gaining strength, meteorological experts predict that rainfall will intensify in the coming days, providing relief to arid areas while also heightening the risk of flooding in low-lying regions.
