Key Takeaways
Ahmedabad, March 17 (NationPress) A state-of-the-art crematorium has recently been inaugurated in Shilaj, a rapidly developing residential locality in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This modern facility is designed to enhance accessibility to last rites services for local inhabitants.
The primary objective of this facility is to alleviate the burden of long-distance travel during times of mourning.
Constructed by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) at an investment of Rs 17 crore, the crematorium emphasizes contemporary infrastructure and environmental sustainability.
The establishment features two CNG-powered furnaces alongside four traditional wood-fired furnaces for cremation processes.
It is equipped with parking, waiting, and seating areas, in addition to a prayer hall for visitors.
Residents have expressed that this new facility fills a critical void in the area.
Local inhabitant, Kamlesh, remarked, "The newly established final resting place for last rites is greatly beneficial for the community. Previously, residents had to travel considerable distances for cremation; now, it is conveniently located nearby."
Another resident, Jitendra Patel, noted that the infrastructure meets modern standards.
"A contemporary crematorium has been created with provisions for CNG gas and wood furnaces. A cafeteria has been added, allowing visitors to enjoy tea and coffee. A prayer hall has also been incorporated," he elaborated.
Spanning almost 12,000 square meters, the crematorium includes specific facilities for ash storage.
Additional amenities such as a cafeteria and drinking water are available to support visitors arriving from other areas.
Authorities revealed plans for similar enhancements across five additional locations in the city.
Devang Dani, the former chairman of the AMC's Standing Committee, stated, "The crematoriums managed by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation are undergoing modernization, as they serve as significant final resting places. In moments of sorrow, it is essential that last rites are conducted with dignity. Therefore, we are modernizing all crematoriums in the city."
Nestled near a lake in Shilaj, this facility is anticipated to provide a more structured and tranquil atmosphere for grieving families, setting a benchmark for comparable initiatives in other city regions.
