Shimla, Jan 31 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Sukhu, has instructed the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department to initiate the fourth phase of the Below Poverty Line (BPL) identification survey starting from February 1.
During a meeting held at the department's office, the Chief Minister emphasized the government's determination to ensure that every eligible family is accounted for in the BPL list, enabling them to benefit from various government welfare programs.
To guarantee that no deserving family is overlooked, the survey will be conducted in five phases. So far, the first three phases have successfully identified 59,829 BPL families throughout the state.
Families eligible for inclusion in the BPL list encompass orphans up to 27 years old, households with members over the age of 59, and families with disabled members aged between 27 to 59 years.
Additionally, households led by women without an adult male member aged between 27 and 59, or those where the head has a disability of 50% or more, will also be recognized under BPL criteria.
Moreover, families that worked at least 100 days under the MGNREGA program in the previous financial year will qualify as well. Households with members suffering from chronic illnesses such as cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, muscular dystrophy, hemophilia, or any condition leading to permanent disabilities will be included too.
The government has also decided to recognize families living in concrete houses that have received financial assistance from state or central housing schemes.
The meeting was attended by Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, MLA Chander Shekhar, Secretary to the Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar, Secretary Amarjeet Singh, Director Rakesh Prajapati, and other senior officials.
