New Delhi, Feb 1 (NationPress) Union Minister of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal described this day as historic as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled the Union Budget for the ninth time, highlighting it as a crucial milestone for the nation and a step forward for women’s empowerment.
In an interview with IANS, Meghwal remarked, “Today marks a historic day with our Finance Minister presenting the budget for the ninth time. This is a remarkable achievement not only for our country but also for the empowerment of women, the BJP, and the NDA.
He emphasized that the primary objective of the budget is to enhance the quality of life for ordinary citizens, regardless of whether they reside in rural or urban areas.
“The budget introduced today is commendable. Our ambition is to create a Viksit Bharat by 2047, and this budget is a significant step in that direction,” he stated.
In response to opposition criticism, Meghwal pointed out their reluctance to acknowledge India's progress.
“They refuse to recognize our development rate. International bodies indicate that India is growing at approximately 7 percent, yet they dismiss this fact. About 25 crore individuals have escaped poverty, yet they remain in denial. They should revisit the budget to truly grasp its vision and implications,” he asserted.
Earlier, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the Union Budget 2026-27 for lacking a coherent policy vision and failing to address crucial socio-economic issues like jobs, manufacturing, private investment, infrastructure, and social security.
Highlighting concerns over “tariff risks and a slowdown” in exports and trade, Kharge stated that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman offered “no solutions” to the ongoing export slump, trade deficit, and diminishing global share.
“The Modi-led Union government appears to be out of ideas. The #Budget2026 lacks actionable solutions for India’s numerous economic, social, and political challenges,” Kharge commented, criticizing the absence of structural reforms in the Union Budget.
“This budget fails to provide any solutions, not even empty slogans to mask its lack of policy,” he noted in a social media post.
Expressing disappointment for farmers, the middle class, and marginalized communities regarding the Union Budget, Kharge remarked, “The Mission Mode has turned into a Challenge Route. The Reform Express seldom halts at any Reform Junction. The end result: No policy vision, no political will.”
