Why do Holy men in Ayodhya support the non-veg delivery ban near Ram Temple?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ayodhya, Jan 10 (NationPress) Sadhus and sants in Ayodhya expressed their approval on Saturday regarding the prohibition of non-vegetarian food deliveries within a 15-km distance from the Ram Temple, emphasizing that this regulation should be implemented rigorously.
Another spiritual figure, Mahamandaleshwar Vishnu Das, informed IANS, “Pilgrims visiting the sacred city of Lord Ram for 'darshan (worship)' ought not to encounter such challenges or witness such activities. This has been a past issue, which is regrettable and disrespectful to the city of Lord Ram and to Lord Ram himself.”
In a conversation with IANS, Deveshacharya Maharaj remarked, "It brings immense joy that the sale and display of non-vegetarian food has been prohibited in Ayodhya. This has been our longstanding request. Ayodhya is the city of Lord Ram, a hub of culture and spirituality where devotees from around the globe come to visit.”
He supported the decision, deeming it essential for maintaining cultural respect.
“Under such conditions, serving non-vegetarian food contradicts our values and dignity. I fully endorse this initiative and anticipate its strict enforcement,” he added.
Previously, the Ayodhya administration had announced on Friday that the delivery of non-vegetarian food would be banned within a 15-km radius of the Ram Temple.
Officials noted that the decision was made following numerous complaints about online food delivery services providing non-vegetarian meals in regions encompassed by the Panchkosi Parikrama.
Authorities also mentioned that certain hotels and homestays in Ayodhya were serving non-vegetarian meals and alcohol. These establishments have received firm warnings to cease such practices.
In May 2025, the Ayodhya Municipal Corporation had decided to prohibit the sale of liquor and meat along the 14-km Ram Path linking Ayodhya and Faizabad. However, locals reported that the liquor ban has not been adequately enforced, with over two dozen alcohol outlets still operating along the route.
